Keep asking the questions about who you are. Ask of the world why it's so hard To make room for each other and handle with love each person no matter where they come from. Keep asking why things can't be different. open your heart for the answers that are given. The hope that you have will grow hope in others. And don't forget to speak up.... no one likes a soft talker. Keep asking questions of the world that you're given. You're a Jackson, the sixth one, you're lucky, you're different You've got all the all the moves, and the questions that prove That hope will bring though, the answers to come. They bridge the gap from the point we're at tot he country that will welcome, and protect us and love. So give voice to the questions, and remember to listen. You need both the answers and questions to have a GOOD TALK. Make sure that they hear you. Make sure that you listen. It's the give and take that makes.... A good talk It's the give and the take, it's just your hearts that will break, it's your world at stake, you're future to make, don't tolerate no fakes, It's your world to create. So have a GOOD TALK.

Her new graphic memoir was shaping up fine Til Mira hit a big snag on page 89 A drawing conundrum that filled her with doubt So she texted a good friend, said please help me out. Don’t wanna be a chicken or come off as lewd But the fact is I never have drawn myself nude This book has potential to blow up for me. Whatever I draw everybody will see Her friend nodded sagely, said you’re not to blame Graphic memoirs are hot beds for womanly shame I’m writing a think piece on this very theme So gimme a quote, girl, & then let us scheme Draw yourself in your 20s, post-roll-in-the-hay And you’ll piss off some readers who’ll holler foul play They’ll say you’re too purty, not naked enough But I’ve got a method for calling their bluff… So you’ve got all these lovers, 1 woman, 3 men Don’t go ‘neath the waist for those panels and then When you show the full monty, it’s time to take charge Draw yourself with a bush that’s abnormally large We’re judged on our bodies in life and in print So listen up, haters, and please take a hint. If you’ve got beef with me, or my book you can shush If you can’t wrap your head round my oversized bush I swore off the razor, and bushed up my art So please read Good Talk coz I’m real fuckin’ smart I girded my loins, put some shove in my push And drew myself sporting an oversized bush

Is there anybody here who can tell me with straight face, why there’s so much hate in this world? (In this world) Is there anybody out there, anywhere, who can see we’re still living on a prayer (it’s not fair) We don’t seem to care if the sun comes out tomorrow When we focus on the things that bring sorrow It’s sad but it’s true Too many things that we do Make us fearful, make us weaker, take us further down and deeper, father mother sister brother, can we take care of each other? Is there anybody here who can give better reason, for the tears we see so many times (so many times) Is there anybody out there, anywhere who believes – all we gotta do is share (it’s all there) We don’t need to save our love for some old promise People feel the truth when we get real and honest It’s sad but it’s true Too many things that we do Make us fearful, make us weaker, take us farther down and deeper, father mother sister brother, can we take care of each other? Spinning round in space With a beautiful face Just a rock or a stone But it feels like home - And we might want to go back someday It’s sad but it’s true Too many things that we do Make us fearful, make us weaker, take us further down and deeper, father mother sister brother, can we take care of each other Take care of each other...

I saw you standing there on the opposite shore Years before you were born, my love Years before you were born I knew you were mine to protect Knew you were mine to love More than anyone, my dear more than anyone If I could only remember If I could find my way back To the country I was raised to believe in Oh I would take you there But you can’t go back to somewhere you’ve never been No you can’t go back to somewhere you’ve never been instrumental I want to make you feel safe Want to make you feel loved Can’t protect you from the reality of becoming a brown man in America I wish I had better answers That would put your mind at ease Wish the country that you were born in Offered equality and peace Instrumental If I could only remember If I could find my way back To the country I was raised to believe in Oh I would take you there But you can’t go back to somewhere you’ve never been No you can’t go back to somewhere you’ve never been

This is a story, of a, girl who had questions I cannot count them all Some about her troubles, and some about just nothing And some never spoken at all I could not count them all How can the sun shine, when it’s rainin’ down thunder That’s what she said to me Where will we be … this time tomorrow? And what’s at the top of those trees? Hey, look up there’s a light in the window, Look up there’s a star in the sky Whenever I trip on my troubles I make a question and just ask why … x 2 This is a puzzle, with so many pieces We cannot find them all Sorted by colors, shapes and the places But no answers come to call x 2 Look up there’s a blue sky above us Look over across the way I can’t see into the future (but ) I see your face and I’m okay … x 2 Instrumental Chorus: Whooo hoo hooo So here we are, it’s this time tomorrow The future runs faster than slow x 2 You gotta find out what you don’t know If you never ever ask any questions If you never ever wonder why You’ll never ever find out the answers So go on (now) and give it a try …… yeah, go on, and just ask WHY?

Sometimes it slips my mind that they don't always see you in the way I do All the subtle tests, the little hurdles that they put you through And I'm sorry Yeah, I'm sorry When I was a kid they told me, "There's a difference between you and them." They said, "Can't you see it?" so I looked but every now and then Them was changing into them So is it them now or is it them? So I left the middlewest just like you left New Mexico But as any hometown leaver all across the world will surely know You know you've got the same family you've always had And just like everything that's good and bad Thanksgiving 2016 I was really nervous go to back turns out my cousin's gay now they're all wearing safety pins I guess it's cool now I was too They looked surprised so I said, "I thought you knew, "That my family is more than you. That my family includes thems too." So when you say your husband's parents are supporters of the side of hate for a bunch of reasons that they never can articulate And are not open for debate Not all relations can relate. They say that hate is a universal But I'm sorry that it exists And I'm sorry I forget Sometimes it slips my mind I don't always see you the way I think I do Tiny little corruptions have their tricky way of sneaking through I see you smile sometimes and say, "That's fine." I bet it's not but that's our time.

It brings you up and brings you down  What you let out and let in The fleeting pleasure of what you found It’s all happening inside your skin I look right through you and shut my eyes As if you’re made of sun I do not see you or even try So I do not imagine  And what happened to all the time We were supposed to have? What’s it looks like and where is mine? I just have to ask I cannot see and I cannot hear Pain as bright as yours The icy flow of 10,000 years Running beneath the floor All I see is you skin The only way out is the only way in All I see is your skin All the dazzling patterns in your mind And the need to win They’ve made a place frozen deep inside  Nothing happens from the outside in All I see is you skin The only way out is the only way in All I see is your skin Nothing happens til you begin

We’re walking and talking You got your Q and A We’re walking and talking I don’t know what to say I should tell you the truth But they got me so afraid I’m feeling black and blue I don’t know what to say We’re our own founding family Our hearts flow with the same blood Put your faith in our own country The country of us You got the hardest questions Why is the world this way Your growing comprehension I don’t know what to say Our home’s a special territory We’ve got each other that’s enough Put your faith in our own country The country of us It’s time to join our hands now Round the table we say grace There’s more we gotta talk about I’m gonna find the words to say So yes family is whoever’s in your heart And yes differences make understanding hard And yes not every other family is like us And yes some people they think they can divide us And yes lots of people understand us too And yes you’ll meet them and they’ll love you like I do And yes we pray because everybody must For the country that is out there And for the country of us The country of us The country of us

We started in January 2009 playing songs written in response to Kurt Vonnegut's Breakfast of Champions. We haven't stopped since. We've written & performed songs inspired by everything from "On The Origin of Species" to Dr. Seuss to Raymond Carver. There are BBCs popping up nationwide now. Bushwick Book Club Seattle started in 2010 & is run by Geoff Larson. Our nerdy dare-devilry knows no bounds. ... more
