lyrics

Her new graphic memoir was shaping up fine
Til Mira hit a big snag on page 89
A drawing conundrum that filled her with doubt
So she texted a good friend, said please help me out.

Don’t wanna be a chicken or come off as lewd
But the fact is I never have drawn myself nude
This book has potential to blow up for me.
Whatever I draw everybody will see

Her friend nodded sagely, said you’re not to blame
Graphic memoirs are hot beds for womanly shame
I’m writing a think piece on this very theme
So gimme a quote, girl, & then let us scheme

Draw yourself in your 20s, post-roll-in-the-hay
And you’ll piss off some readers who’ll holler foul play
They’ll say you’re too purty, not naked enough
But I’ve got a method for calling their bluff…

So you’ve got all these lovers, 1 woman, 3 men
Don’t go ‘neath the waist for those panels and then
When you show the full monty, it’s time to take charge
Draw yourself with a bush that’s abnormally large

We’re judged on our bodies in life and in print
So listen up, haters, and please take a hint.
If you’ve got beef with me, or my book you can shush
If you can’t wrap your head round my oversized bush

I swore off the razor, and bushed up my art
So please read Good Talk coz I’m real fuckin’ smart
I girded my loins, put some shove in my push
And drew myself sporting an oversized bush

Bushwick Book Club Seattle started in 2010 & is run by Geoff Larson. Our nerdy dare-devilry knows no bounds. ... more
