I am Jonah Trace, who fell victim to a lie,
For months I have been trying to find the reason why.
I should have known from the start it was a honeytrap
Perhaps some bet with another girl to get Jonah here the sack.
And she lied so many times, like how her father died –
Poisoned by an oyster? No, he committed suicide.
Or the time she met me as if by chance as I left Stamford Bridge,
And all those texts she sent me which ended kiss kiss kiss,
Which disappeared from my phone – so mysterious! –
So when I spoke to the school board they were so serious,
And over what? Just a kiss or two in the local park;
I felt sorry for her awkwardness and her face with its birthmark.
And I liked her love of swimming, and shops in Camden Town,
And when she’d say the Overland, when she meant the Overground.
I didn’t sleep with her, she had long turned 17,
(They changed the law for teachers, which to me just seems extreme).
They said I had a history, but you know that's just not true,
They mentioned Bath Academy and the incident with Sue –
But by then she had left the school so there’s no issue there
(I’ve got a copy of the file from Bath which I’m willing now to share)
And Jessica on the Isle of Wight – well, she came on to me!
And in revenge when I said no, she went and told Mr Filigree.
You could say that it was wrong, that I was there to teach,
But Nora was a troubled girl that I somehow had to reach.
So I was just an awkward man, I hope that’s plain to see
Who wanted to share his love of art, of life and Alien3.
In the end she won, she’s really did, she really made me pay
But it didn't have to end this way, it didn't have to end this way
It didn't have to end this way, it didn't have to end this way.
It didn’t have to end.
We started in January 2009 playing songs written in response to Kurt Vonnegut's Breakfast of Champions. We haven't stopped

As you might guess from the title, this is strange and eerie synth music meant to conjure a mystical film where all is not what it seems. Bandcamp New & Notable Aug 14, 2023
