lyrics

EXCERPT from STRAY/Text for Stephanie Larriere's piece:

Drinking the liquor felt awful and then suddenly fortifying.

Buzzing warmth spread from the place where the bottle kissed my
mouth.

My veins felt hot, like they were filling with electric blood,

the trees hummed along to the sound of the creek,
a night song of wind

And leaves and the rushing of water over rock.

It was getting dark and I could barely see the outlines of Melanie and her brother.

It seemed as if everything were vibrating and alive.

I held my hand out, splaying my fingers and closed one eye to see the water beyond.

A passing sensation swept over me,

the feeling that I was becoming the water, disappearing into the creek.

It was very funny and I found myself laughing for no reason.

The beginnings of a lifelong love affair with booze cemented

where I sat on the grass.

Bushwick Book Club Seattle started in 2010 & is run by Geoff Larson. Our nerdy dare-devilry knows no bounds. ... more
