about

lyrics

On the day that Tanya Marquart turned 16
She ran away from home
She’s been living in Port Alberni
With her Mom who’d moved to escape her Dad
Tanya was troubled and filled with anger
At her Mom, and wanted to be own her own
She found a new kind of family
In the Vancouver Goth Punk underground

Sometimes you’re with a friend, or a lover
Lying in bed, trying to find the thread
That binds these stories together
Whether for the world, or in your head

When my Grandma was 16 she was married with a child
Pregnant with a second nowhere to stay
To an alcoholic abusive husband
There’d be 3 more born before he ran away
1931, oh, she never worked that out
The actions of those two are still with me today

Sometimes you’re with a friend, or a lover
Lying in bed, trying to find the thread
That binds these stories together
Whether for the world, or in your head

A Diary is a secret and a sacred thing
The language is intimate and close like a friend
There’s a pattern there to figure out
There’s a rhythm, and a feeling and the craft
Memories laid out on the floor
So easy to see all pink and black
I’m 59 and still want to run away
At this point there’s no going back

Sometimes you’re with a friend, or a lover
Lying in bed, trying to find the thread
That binds these stories together
Whether for the world, or in your head

On the day that Tanya Marquart turned 16
She ran a way from home

about

The Bushwick Book Club Brooklyn, New York

We started in January 2009 playing songs written in response to Kurt Vonnegut's Breakfast of Champions. We haven't stopped since. We've written & performed songs inspired by everything from "On The Origin of Species" to Dr. Seuss to Raymond Carver. There are BBCs popping up nationwide now. Bushwick Book Club Seattle started in 2010 & is run by Geoff Larson. Our nerdy dare-devilry knows no bounds. ... more
