about

Laura Brenneman wrote and performed this song for the September 2011 Bushwick Book Club performance inspired by Keith Richards' "Life." Here's a transcript of her introduction to the song -- "So I wrote this song... it's terrible, it's the worst song, the stupidest song ever, ever written. I wrote it today between teaching piano lessons, and one of my 2 students is this 65 year old Brazilian woman named Irma; I'm totaly in love with her, but she came in, she was wearing all these rings, and she was having trouble, and I was like, 'Well is it the rings?' and she's like 'No, it is not the rings,' and I said okay. I thought it was very Keith Richards of her, like 'I'm going to wear my rings,' if Keith Richard was an elderly Brazilian woman, which he sometimes looks like, I don't know..." lyrics

'I Never Thought I Was Wasted But I Probably Was'

Somebody put me on the fastest train to anywhere but here
I laugh like an elevated train that's been rattling high for years

It ruins your sleep, but it keeps me going on

I used to think that Johnny Depp was dealing drugs to my son
I thought this for two entire years and well i guess,
I was mistaken

I never thought i never thought I was wasted,
but I probably was.

'Non, je ne regrette rien' is what I've always said,
But that poseur Mick Jagger wouldn't know his A** from his Zed...

I never thought i never thought I was wasted,
but I probably was.
