Dan wrote and performed this song for The Bushwick Book Club performance of songs inspired by Vladimir Nabokov's DESPAIR. Here's an excerpt from his intro. to the song:

This guy said to me, is that a real beard? I swear to god, he said is that a real beard, and I thought, are you serious? And it turns out that he was serious, and then I was kind of perplexed and exasperated, and I kind of felt that way about this book too.

Dan also had to do this Broadway thing with Broadway singers the next week, and the song was also inspired by his not looking forward to that.
