about

Corn Mo wrote and performed this song for the Bushwick Book Club performance of songs inspired by Nabokov's DESPAIR. Here's an excerpt from his introduction to the song:

I didn't want to read this book so I went on youtube and I found the Fassinder… I couldn't even fucking sit through that; I fell asleep twice… sure if I was in a better mood I would watch it. It wasn't that entertaining to me. At the beginning he was watching himself have sex, and I was like, ah this is fun, but then it digressed, which is a big word that that guy uses in his book. Digress… he digresses a lot. And I don't think it's the character. It's Nabokov. He loves the way he sounds. I wish he would have read it to me out loud. But anyways, the last book I read for this club was Game of Thrones. And I loved that book. And now I'm on Clash of Kings because I got hooked. And I've been reading Clash of Kings, and all of a sudden, oh you've got to read Nabokov now. Fuck, I had to put Clash of Kings down. Clash of Kings is way much better than Despair. Oh, I've been so full of Despair the past few days trying to watch the movie. And then I went on Wikipedia to try and cheat my way to learning the story and then write the song. Still didn't fucking work. So I went to the Strand. They didn't have it. They had every other Nabokov book but this one. So I went to Barnes and Noble. And I tried to read the book at Barnes and Noble because it was 15 dollars. So I stood there and just started reading, and I was like fuck this, I can't fucking read this all the way here. I looked in my wallet, Hey, I've got a gift card from my birthday. So I bought it. I went home and I read it. With Clash of Kings sitting near by just in case. So I read the book, and here's the story that I read.
