lyrics

Bare Feet

You bring down a mountain
Who walks like a man
Tear him to pieces
Because you can

You kick him around
pain seeks a friend
a pile of salt
a hill you upend

almost supernatural
no dreams, no love
a muddled machine held
by velvet gloves

your instrument sings
and your body quakes
spring in your mind
the ice as it breaks

No matter how precious
how shiny the treasure
your soul’s not for sale
your scars not for measure

Childhood lingers
You’re incomplete
Blue, bony and narrow
your fragile bare feet

take off your boots
leave them behind
a buzz on your lips
shakes something loose inside

your instrument sings
and your body quakes
spring in your mind
the ice as it breaks

about

The Bushwick Book Club Brooklyn, New York

We started in January 2009 playing songs written in response to Kurt Vonnegut's Breakfast of Champions. We haven't stopped since. We've written & performed songs inspired by everything from "On The Origin of Species" to Dr. Seuss to Raymond Carver. There are BBCs popping up nationwide now. Bushwick Book Club Seattle started in 2010 & is run by Geoff Larson. Our nerdy dare-devilry knows no bounds. ... more
