I have been the kid that no one gets cuz no one wants to Except you I have been the kid that no one gets cuz no one knows how to Except you Let's go find Laika I'm sure she found a loving home All dogs go to heaven, my friend You were never alone Never alone You wish you would have told her more But you told her what you could and that's good, good on you She can hear you still today Tell her what you've got to say, she's listening Like always Let's go find Laika I'm sure she found a loving home All dogs go to heaven, my friend You were never alone Never alone Don't it feel good to find someone who understands your mind? As strange a place as it may be Strange places are beautiful to me

Kurt E. Armbruster, 2017 A) Seikkan you will find me waiting down the line In a land beyond time where the sun always shines And boys and dogs run free, no hassles, no money Summer never ends and you will be with me again B) If a circle becomes broken, if a world turns inside out I will never give up hoping never be without A) All the love we had together, the happy memories Living life as life should be in the time of you and me A) Who knew life could be so cruel, got me acting like a fool Barking howling and a-crawlin’ folks all think I’m ‘gallen’ Boy, they say, you must be strong they don’t know that I belong Somewhere only I can see where you are back with me A) Late at night I see yr face looking down from outer space You and Laika side-by-side having you a cosmic ride Seikkan you will hear me calling in your ear We will run and just be lazy eat meatballs and gravy Bark in the dark and go where the wild strawberries grow A boy and dog running free in a time of you and me Forever, a time of you and me

Dig out some clothes from the plywood chest Train's on a schedule and Mama's gotta rest How's she gonna heal up her tip top best? Chasing us children in a thin house dress It's not black and white It's shades of gray I've got a home, but I'm a stray Mama takes ill like a metronome Every couple months she keeps time alone Rents us to kin as labor on loan 'Till they get tired and send us all back home It's not black and white It's shades of gray I've got a home, but I'm a stray Papa's out of country and out of touch He works over there so he ain't 'round much Drops in for a minute to check on us Rolls back down the driveway and pops the clutch It is What you think it is I know More or less the score The shoe fits Mama didn't want no kids Or if she did She doesn't anymore I've got a friend that I call my wife We make believe we've got a family life It's the closest I've come, and it does feel nice But it ain't quite real and it ain't quite right It's not black and white It's shades of gray I've got a home, but I'm a stray Dig out some clothes from the plywood chest Train's on a schedule and Mama's gotta rest

WIRES ON HER HEART They put wires on her heart when they sent her to the stars Just a lost little stray from the streets snatched by science tsars She’s with me when our spaceship glides down rusty wires Crash land laughing in the mud in the field by the glassworks fires I should have told her everything Stories of my life, she wore like dime-store rings My mother lying in bed, trying to turn just another page Drifting away like Laika, drifting away It hurts so bad when they dump you in convenient places on your own Downstairs on a pull-out bed or up on the roof looking down Maybe that’s what Laika thought as the world got so small and Mom surrounded by her dusty books in the stillness down the hall I should have told her everything Stories of my life, she wore like dime-store rings My mother sick in bed, struggling to turn one more page Drifting away like Laika, drifting away

No one keeps their promises. Nothing is waterproof, Your prick will always be wet, even in a suit. No reflection tape Will keep you safe. We love women’s breasts. The whole world loves women’s breasts. A woman’s ankles are for biting., not hard. Just so Well wel life is a difficult thing It’s worse than worst. Inside there's an old man inside. He is waiting to get out. He hears death messengers knocking. The only thing to comfort you is soon you'll be dead too. Maybe I’ll end my days knitting a sweater for that chilly heaven if I decide to stay. Life is something we’ve just got on loan. Isn’t that funny. The best thing in life is just a loan. It’s all on loan. Isn't that funny. Ha ha ha...

There's a line from the beginning Takes us youngins to us olds There are those who stay rigid Little vines carry us home ooh ooh If you only do what you should And never what you should not What a bore truly a snore Imagine that would rather not ooh ooh There's a game some people play Roll the dice advance your move There's a way to keep your fate Always ahead a step or two ooh ooh There's a time we must accept Reality as is such But I myself would rather not Be so well adjusted ooh ooh Then again I'll get on my bus And you will get on yours Our paths they may never Ever cross and that's the rub ooh ooh We are in the middle of the Middle of the Middle of the We are in the middle of the There's a line from the beginning Takes us youngin's to us olds There are those who stay rigid Little vines carry us home ooh ooh

about

The Bushwick Book Club Brooklyn, New York

We started in January 2009 playing songs written in response to Kurt Vonnegut's Breakfast of Champions. We haven't stopped since. We've written & performed songs inspired by everything from "On The Origin of Species" to Dr. Seuss to Raymond Carver. There are BBCs popping up nationwide now. Bushwick Book Club Seattle started in 2010 & is run by Geoff Larson. Our nerdy dare-devilry knows no bounds. ... more
